February 7th, 2023 to February 14th, 2023:
Consultation Vote
Your Vote. Your Voice. Our Future.
To ensure the will of the Kwantlen people is clear, the Band Council has resolved to hold a consultation vote between February 7th and February 14th, 2023. The vote will be open to all registered members of the Kwantlen First Nation who are aged 18 or above as of February 14th.
Kwantlen members will be asked to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to 6 different questions. Due to safety concerns, the vote will be held online only.
How can you vote?
If you receive the Band Council’s weekly update emails (and are a band member), then you are already on our voters list. If you have not received those, then you may need to register to vote. To do so, please send an image of your Status Card, to: spokesperson@kwantlen.community no later than 11:59pm on February 12th. If you do not have a status card, then show any other documentation validating your status as a band member. This can include:
a letter from Indigenous Services Canada (or its predecessors) confirming your status, and showing the first three-digits of your status card number
a letter from the band office validating your status
documents such as: a “love offering” cheque stub, a band rental lease or loan agreement identifying you as a band member
If you do not have any of these documents, please let us know, and we’ll work with you to find another way to validate your Status and eligibility to vote.
Where can you vote?
All voting will done online, using a portal run by an Alberta-based elections management firm. No one will see who you voted for - your votes are strictly confidential even from the vote organizers. Registered voters will receive a voting package, including voting login information by February 1st.
